They are looking to hire an experienced developer with a good understanding of the Life Sciences / pharmaceutical and biotech industry to join their team in a fully home-based role and develop software to support their lab and R&D efforts. Your new role Design and develop advanced software applications for laboratory and bioinformatics workflows, focusing on data management and analysis. Maintain and enhance existing software systems, ensuring optimal performance and functionality to support ongoing drug discovery & development efforts. Collaborate with scientists and lab personnel to automate lab processes, define system requirements, and gather user feedback for new features. Implement and refine software life cycle processes, introducing improvements where necessary. Scope, plan, and manage new projects, providing regular updates to management. Utilise external consulting resources to support project goals where needed. Work across the full software development life cycle (SDLC), from analysis and coding to testing and documentation. Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems to ensure reliability and efficiency. What you'll need to succeed A BSc or MSc (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field, eg Biotechnology or Biology Strong hands-on experience as a Software Engineer or Developer, within the Life Sciences sector, eg for a pharmaceutical or biotech company, CRO or other R&D business. Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including Python, Java, and JavaScript; knowledge of R would be an advantage. Good knowledge of relational databases (SQL) and ORM technologies (eg JPA2, Hibernate). Experience in developing web applications using frameworks such as React, Angular, Node.js, or Spring MVC. Familiarity with the software design life cycle (SDLC) and test-driven development methodologies. Good communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders such as wet lab scientists. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple tasks and priorities.
