Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (Interest in Skin Cancer)
This post is offered on a full-time (10 PA) basis, although less than full-time or job share applications will be considered.
The post has been created to support existing consultants and specialists in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and to further develop the skin cancer service. While primarily based at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, services are also provided at Dewsbury and District Hospital and Pontefract General Infirmary. The department provides secretarial support and office accommodation. The post holder will work with colleagues to provide a comprehensive acute and elective Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will collaborate with colleagues to deliver comprehensive acute and elective Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery services. The role includes a sub-specialist interest in skin cancer management, developing sentinel lymph node biopsy, and Mohs micrographic surgical services.
This position involves being a core member of the skin MDT alongside Plastic Surgery, Dermatology, and Histopathology teams.
Responsibilities include outpatient clinics, elective inpatient and day case surgeries at Pinderfields, Dewsbury, and Pontefract hospitals.
Urgent and emergency care duties, including out-of-hours on-call work within working time regulations, shared with Leeds Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery unit on a 1:12 rota, currently assessed at 1 PA.
The role involves teaching, training, audit, and supervising core trainees and specialist registrars.
You will provide advice and support to the clinical team and peers in clinical and leadership situations, fostering confidence, motivation, and teamwork.
