Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Highway Design Engineer to join out Living Places business unit to work in Southampton. The role will involve developing and designing a range of schemes in Southampton from feasibility right through to construction. This includes delivering Southamptons Active Travel Fund programme of schemes that aim to have a transformative impact on peoples journeys by bus, walking and cycling. What you'll be doing As a Highway Designer Engineer, you will have the following accountabilities: Leadership and Management Be responsible for the technical delivery of design works for allocated projects Manage other team members working on allocated projects. Manage third party inputs into allocated projects. Communications & Liaison Work with the Design Manager in the planning and delivery of design work. Liaise with internal BBLP teams (including Project Management, Delivery, Asset Management, Communications) in developing designs and project delivery. Planning Prepare programme information for design projects and liaise with project managers and the programme coordinator to incorporate this information in project and the integrated programme. Finance Prepare estimates of level of design input for projects and liaise with the design manager and project manager to include these in submissions to Southampton City Council. Monitor the spend against the agreed activity schedule on allocated projects to ensure expenditure is within agreed values. Operations Deliver design work in line with local and national standards and Balfour Beatty policies and procedures. Keep up to date with industry best practice to ensure design is undertaken in line with that. Apply the CDM regulations to all design work and ensure designs meet the requirements and principles of the BBLP safety systems Who we're looking for You will have the following qualities and experience: Proven Experience utilising software including AutoCad and BIM (Building Information Modelling) Experience and understanding of on and off the public highway on construction sites. Experience of NEC Option 3 contract type Experience and understanding of CDM regulations, and risk.
