DEPARTMENT: BBC News
LOCATION: London Broadcasting House & Millbank
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: Up to £54,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

We\'re happy to discuss flexible working. If you\'d like to, please indicate your preference in the application – though there\'s no obligation to do so now. Flexible working will be part of the discussion at offer stage.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

This is an opportunity to join a small team that makes headlines each week and sets the agenda for the week ahead. Recently we have interviewed Justin Welby, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Esther Ghey, Charles Spencer and Nancy Pelosi, as well as the Prime Minister. If you can help us secure guests like these, liaise with political parties and write brilliant briefs we’d love to hear from you. You\'ll also have a chance to help shape our digital strategy, and for the right candidate the chance to output the programme.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

Each week as one of our Senior Journalists you come up with ambitious ideas for guests, ensuring the programme gets the highest impact interviews and panellists. Your creative ideas for VT, graphics and studio treatments will help build our audiences on BBC1 and iPlayer. And your strong analytical skills and sharp political antenna will ensure our interviews make headlines, hold our decision makers to account and are a gripping watch.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

* Bid for and produce interviews that will be newsmaking and will appeal to our audiences on BBC1, iPlayer and on social media
* Create distinctive VT and graphics sequences and innovative ways to use the studio
* Help prepare running orders and studio produce while live on air
* Plan and produce all aspects of interview roll-out on news outlets, digital and social media, including promotion to ensure maximum impact
* Build relationships with political parties, and develop contacts in the business world, the arts and entertainment, and internationally
* Ensure the programme adheres to all the BBC\'s editorial values and reflects the UK\'s diversity of opinion and background

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

* Strong track record in securing newsmaking interviews, beyond the world of politics, as well as within it
* Excellent editorial judgement, extensive knowledge of politics, and experience of producing political interviews
* Experience of working under pressure in a TV or radio studio, either as an output editor or gallery producer
* A creative, confident and collaborative individual with a proven track record in generating ideas, formats and fresh approaches
* Comprehensive and sophisticated understanding of the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines and media law

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

* Experience of producing high quality TV and/or radio packages and/or writing for digital platforms
* Experience of taking ownership of complex projects, and being responsible for editorial content, production values and logistics
* Good understanding of the BBC1 audience and the broadcast landscape
* Experience of working on digital and social platforms

If you can bring some of these skills and experiences, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
