Overview
Part-time opportunity for a Practitioner Psychologist or Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to work in the Here for Staff service, supporting staff in the Acute and Rehabilitation Directorate (ARD). Here for Staff provides confidential support, consultation, guidance, and brief therapeutic interventions for staff and teams impacted by events of violence and aggression, racism, sexual harm, and patient safety.
The postholder would be based at Goodmayes Hospital, with some travel expected. The role includes meeting regularly with staff, matrons and managers to build relationships, enable staff to recognise the impact of events, and feel confident in accessing support. In addition to individual and team support face to face or virtually, consultation and training would be offered as required. This role supports developing staff support skills, providing psychoeducation, and facilitating space for reflection and resilience-building within teams. This is a key role within NELFT’s strategy to ensure staff wellbeing and enhance patient safety.

NELFT places a strong emphasis on welcoming and inducting new starters into the Trust, with a comprehensive induction process for up to two weeks including mandatory and systems training and equipment allocation. Induction takes place at the Trust head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary period applies to this post. Internal applicants are exempt unless otherwise specified. This role may include High Cost Area Supplement (London) and other standard terms of employment.
The post involves delivering brief NICE-endorsed individual and group psychological interventions and psychoeducation, using outcome measures and risk assessments, and providing consultation and supervision to staff and non-psychology colleagues within professional guidelines and service policies. The role also supports reducing waiting times and expanding the psychological component of staff health and wellbeing within the Trust. It requires collaboration with managers and teams, and engagement with multidisciplinary colleagues across NELFT, as well as involvement in audits, policy development, and research where appropriate.
The service aims to deliver a culturally and ethically sensitive, equitable psychological service to all staff groups, including outreach to bank and agency staff as needed.
Outreach and development opportunities include attending in-house and external meetings, contributing to staff support strategy, and promoting health and wellbeing training events.
Main duties
* Supporting managers to offer a consistent approach following a patient or staff safety incident.
* Providing support to staff following patient suicide, serious investigation process, and legal proceedings.
* Ensuring a consistent model of supportive/debrief sessions after safety incidents for patients and staff.
* Offering parity of support to all staff, including bank and agency workers.
* Using suitable data to capture the experience of affected staff.
* Supporting the creation of an MDT workplace wellbeing expert reference group.
* Ensuring suitable online support resources for staff and managers.
* Starting with NELFT; contributing to the development of staff wellbeing and support initiatives.
* Delivering brief psychological interventions and psychoeducation (one-off sessions or up to eight designated sessions).
* Carrying out risk assessments and outcome measurement in line with professional guidelines.
* Facilitating critical incident debriefing and support for individuals and teams.
* Working flexibly and independently as an autonomous clinical practitioner with support from Staff Support Service colleagues.
* Supporting reduced waiting times for staff and teams referred for support.
* Providing advice and consultation on staff psychological care to psychology and non-psychology colleagues.
* Expanding the psychological component of staff health and wellbeing and promoting related training events.
* Working closely with managers, teams and other NELFT colleagues to provide consultation, training and supervision as required.
* Utilising research skills for audit, policy and service development and research.
* Contributing to internal and external meetings and groups to enhance staff psychological support.
* Delivering a culturally and ethically sensitive service to all staff groups, including involvement of staff in design and delivery of the service.
