Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Advisor - 31342
We have two permanent Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Advisor roles available within the Environment Agency. These positions are part of our Industrial Decarbonisation and Market Mechanisms Team in the Environment and Business Directorate (E&B), focusing on driving the decarbonisation of the economy.
The Advisor role involves:
* Supporting the development of decarbonisation and energy efficiency regimes, focusing on specific regimes
* Contributing to the preparation, review, and publication of technical guidance
* Advising on issues during the operation of these regimes
This includes advising government on decarbonisation policies, networking with officials and stakeholders, preparing briefings, and producing technical, legally sound advice. A significant part of the work involves monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of emissions and energy data to ensure accurate measurement and reporting.
You will work on expanding existing regimes like the UK ETS to maritime sectors and developing regulations for new heat networks under upcoming UK Heat Network Zoning Regulations. The role requires flexibility and responsiveness to deadlines.
The team leads UK policies to reduce industrial greenhouse gases, including emissions trading, low carbon clusters, and other schemes. We promote a diverse, inclusive, and supportive culture, leveraging expertise and innovation to influence policy and legislation.
**Experience and skills required:**
* Ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds and encourage diversity considerations
* Experience collaborating with multiple teams and understanding legislation and policy principles
* Creative thinking and strong communication skills
* Experience in data collection, analysis, and interpretation to support policy or process changes
This role is suitable for a numerate graduate in science, engineering, or environmental sciences, or equivalent experience, with an interest in policy implementation. Experience in monitoring, reporting, and verification is desirable but not essential. Development opportunities and training are provided.
