Locum Consultant in General Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology
Join to apply for the Locum Consultant in General Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology role at Western Collegiate Club Hockey Association. The position is full‑time, requiring 10 sessions per week (plus 1.5 additional banes). It will cover maternity leave until 6 July 2026.
Applicants will integrate within a team of seven full‑time consultants to deliver a high‑quality Diabetes, Endocrine and General Medicine service. A strong tradition of multidisciplinary teamwork utilises specialist nurses, dietitians and podiatrists, and the department works closely with community diabetes services.
The service hosts a broad range of specialist clinics, including Antenatal, Foot, Renal, Type 1, Complication, Young Persons, Endocrine and bariatric clinics, all supported by regular MDT meetings. Research activity is active, with participation in multinational commercial trials, investigator‑initiated studies, and diabetes education research.
Responsibilities
* Care of general medical emergencies referred by GPs and ED, including on‑call and post‑take ward rounds as directed by the Clinical Director.
* Ward rounds for inpatients.
* Review and advise on inpatient management referred by other specialists.
* Specialist and general medical outpatient clinics.
* Close liaison with primary care to develop community diabetes care.
* Teaching of medical students and doctors in training.
* Audit, CPD, clinical governance and annual appraisal.
* Development and promotion of evidence‑based practice and guidelines.
* Multidisciplinary team working and leadership.
* Relevant participation in management.
* Research activity.
* Other appropriate duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications and requirements
Applicants must demonstrate extensive experience in Endocrinology, Diabetes and General Internal Medicine. DBS checks are required, with costs deducted over the first three months of employment; the DBS Update Service (€16 per year) is encouraged.
