An exciting opportunity to join an award-winning design team as an Apprentice Design Engineer, based in Clitheroe, Lancashire. Ultraframe is the UK’s leading designer & manufacturer of conservatories, solid roofing systems & building solutions.
Wage: £14,526.20 for your first year, with potential increases depending on your age. This is aligned with the National Minimum Wage rate for apprentices.
Hours: Monday - Friday, 9.00am - 5.00pm, totaling 37 hours a week.
Start Date: Monday 21 July 2025
Duration: 3 years 6 months

The majority of your apprenticeship will be spent gaining hands-on experience in the workplace, learning on the job.
What you'll do at work
Join an award-winning design team as an Apprentice Design Engineer in Clitheroe, Lancashire. Ultraframe specializes in innovative, high-quality conservatory roofs, solid roofs, and glazing systems designed to enhance light & space in homes, with a focus on carbon efficiency and insulation.
Ultraframe values investing in apprentices, supporting their development in design skills, and providing college education alongside practical experience. Familiarity with Ultraframe’s products is advantageous, but comprehensive technical training will be provided, including in-house software and CAD/Solidworks skills, which are desirable but not essential.
Your career path over four years will include:
1. Attending college one day per week to attain an HND in Manufacturing Engineering.
2. Gaining product knowledge across various design divisions.
3. Learning and adhering to quality procedures and design standards.
4. Maintaining and updating drawings through continuous improvement initiatives.
5. Developing existing products and updating internal systems.
6. Conducting feasibility studies and developing concepts to final designs, producing detailed technical drawings.
7. Providing technical support to other departments.

Your training course
The course covers translating technical ideas into operational designs, applying problem-solving methods like DMAIC, FMEA, PDCA, and managing projects. You will learn to interpret technical documentation, conduct data analysis, and ensure safety standards. The program emphasizes leadership, continuous improvement, and project management skills.
Your training plan
You will work towards a Level 6 Product Design and Development Engineering degree apprenticeship, enrolled at Burnley College.
Requirements
GCSE in Maths (grade 4 or above). Please inform us of any other relevant qualifications or industry experience, which may influence your apprenticeship placement.
Skills and other requirements
You must be able to work independently, be computer literate, demonstrate excellent attention to detail, communicate effectively, collaborate well with colleagues, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
