Family Support Worker, Birmingham Childrens Trust
Vacancies: Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people at risk of homelessness? We are seeking a dedicated Family Support Worker to join our dynamic team, supporting 16–17-year-olds in line with the Southwark Judgement and the Children Act 1989. Your work will play a key role in preventing youth homelessness by ensuring that all young people are assessed and supported as children first, not just as housing applicants.
Key Responsibilities
1. Respond promptly to referrals of 16–17-year-olds at risk of or presenting as homeless.
2. Undertake home visits, needs assessments, and direct work with young people and their families.
3. Work collaboratively with Housing, Social Care, and Early Help services to ensure appropriate statutory assessments are completed under Section 17 and Section 20 of the Children Act 1989.
4. Advocate for young people’s rights in accordance with the Southwark Judgement, ensuring no unlawful gatekeeping occurs.
5. Provide practical support to help families resolve conflict and reduce the need for accommodation where safe to do so.
6. Maintain accurate records and contribute to multi-agency safeguarding meetings.
7. Participate in reflective supervision and continuous professional development.
