JOB DESCRIPTION
CMDP+ have secured a new AMP8 Capital Programme Strategic Delivery Partner Framework Agreement with Southern Water for Water and Wastewater delivery. This represents continuation of the successful joint venture between Costain and MWH Treatment.
The award is for an initial seven-year term with an option to extend up to a further five years. Between 2025–2030 CMDP+ will deliver critical investment to Water and Wastewater infrastructure across the region including upgrades to Water and Wastewater Treatment Works, Pumping Stations and Reservoirs.
The Technical Risk Manager will be responsible for delivering engineering solutions at programme level from initial definition of need through optioneering, solution development, detail design and construction support.
This is a hybrid role and will ideally be based in Falmer 2–3 days per week, with some travel to other sites.
RESPONSIBILITIES
* Responsible for programme level technical governance on water projects from initial definition of need through optioneering, solution development, detail design and construction support.
* Provide technical assurance across teams of Design Managers and Discipline Design Engineers in the development of water technical solutions from initial need statement through optioneering, solution development, value engineering, detail design and construction support.
* Ensure affordable design solutions are developed within project budget and water quality risk is appropriately managed and communicated throughout the solution development process.
* Establish collaborative working relationships with the client, design teams, construction staff and supply chain representatives to promote buildability and supply chain efficiency in design outputs.
* Ensure sustainable design solutions are completed in accordance with CDM Regulations.
* Ensure design solutions meet all the requirements of the programme’s systems and governance procedures.
* Maintain a positive and solution‑oriented approach to work, providing open and honest feedback.
* Undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required, and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this role.
* In all internal and external contact, present a professional and positive image of CMDP as well as maintaining mutually constructive, positive, and beneficial relationships.
* Take all reasonable steps to ensure appropriate confidentiality.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
* Engineering discipline
* Experience of technical project delivery in a design‑build environment
* Experience in the Water Sector with extensive clean water knowledge
* Commercially astute with an eye for detail preparing and reviewing contractual technical documents
* Degree in an engineering‑related discipline
* Able to identify and manage project/programme risk
* Able to identify and manage changes to project scope
* Bachelor’s degree / Engineering or management apprenticeship with industry experience
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
* Chartered Engineer in an engineering‑related discipline
* Experience of working in Joint Ventures
* Experience of offsite manufactured design solutions
* Chartered member of professional institute (MICE/IMechE/MCIOB etc)
* Related Project Management or Risk Management training

CMDP is a joint venture between Costain and MWHT and delivers a range of schemes to maintain and improve Southern Water’s water supply and wastewater treatment works in the eastern half of its region (Kent & Sussex).
