Job description
Our nursery cares for children from 3 months to 5 years. The Third in charge role has been created to oversee the performance and practice of Nursery Practitioners and Senior Nursery Practitioners (Room Leaders), ensuring consistently high standards of care, education, and compliance across the setting. The Third in charge will be room-based but will have designated time to work closely with staff in all areas of the nursery to provide leadership, support and ensure a cohesive and high-quality provision throughout.
· Providing leadership, guidance and professional support to the room-based staff team
· To help support effective implementation of the EYFS curriculum and stimulating learning environments indoors and outdoors
· Work with the management team to support monitoring of room planning, observations, assessments and record keeping
· Supporting the nursery's readiness for Ofsted inspections and maintaining inspection-level standards at all times
· Ensuring staff follow nursery policies, safeguarding protocols and maintain a culture of safety, professionalism and inclusion
· Acting as a positive role model to staff, children and families in all aspects of their work
Person Specification
You will possess the following skills and experience:
· You must be a strong and confident practitioner with an excellent working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and child development
· You must have experience of working with children aged 0–5 years, with proven leadership or supervisory experience
· You must have a deep understanding of effective curriculum planning and assessment practices in early years
· You must have a thorough understanding of safeguarding procedures and be confident in promoting a safe culture
· You must have a proactive approach to teamwork and be confident in mentoring and leading others
· You must be reliable, trustworthy and punctual
· You must hold a recognised Level 3 or higher childcare qualification
· You should demonstrate a strong understanding of Health & Safety, Food Hygiene and EYFS welfare requirements
· You should have experience or training in safeguarding and paediatric first aid (must be updated within the last 3 years)
· You must be committed to continuous professional development and supporting high-quality early years practice
· You should have the ability to take on responsibility for whole-setting improvements and positively promote the nursery in the wider community
