Insurance Claims Handler – About the role
My client are recruiting for a technically competent Claims Handler to join their commercial broking team.
This role will suit someone experienced in managing end-to-end commercial claims within a delegated authority (DA) environment, with specific expertise in Property claims and a working knowledge of Motor, EL, and PL. The successful candidate must demonstrate a solid understanding of policy wordings, regulatory requirements, and negotiation tactics in handling commercial insurance claims.
Insurance Claims Handler – Key duties
Handle a range of claims classes, including: Commercial Property (core) Motor/Fleet Employers’ Liability Public Liability Operate within Delegated Authority limits: Typically up to £10,000 independently Up to £100,000 with adjuster involvement. Non-delegated claims handled up to £50,000 Accurately interpret and apply policy terms, endorsements, and exclusions. Negotiate liability and quantum with insurers, loss adjusters, and solicitors. Maintain meticulous records in line with FCA, GDPR, and internal audit standards. Escalate complex or contentious claims to the appropriate internal or external authority. Review and forward supporting documentation promptly (invoices, repair estimates, legal correspondence). Monitor outstanding items and manage claims diaries actively. Assist clients in understanding decisions on cover declinature or partial settlements.
Insurance Claims Handler – Key requirements
Solid experience handling Property claims (domestic or commercial) in a brokerage, MGA, or insurer setting.
Proficient in using insurance claims systems
Proven ability to interpret policy wordings, endorsements, and relevant legislation.
Experience working within a DA framework and an understanding of the associated controls. Familiarity with service level agreements (SLAs), diary control, and case progression requirements.
Desirable experience would include exposure to other commercial or specialist classes of insurance.
Use of systems such as Acturis, insurer portals, or TPA platforms.
Experience generating and interpreting claims MI. Involvement in internal audits, complaints responses, or claims compliance reviews. Working toward or holding professional qualifications (Cert CII, Dip CII, or CILA).
