Salary details: Grade SMG, £70,614 - £76,256
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time
Hours: 37 hours per week

About the Role
The Head of Fire Rescue & Emergency Planning is accountable for delivering a fully effective Emergency Fire & Rescue Service and maintaining robust emergency plans and procedures that safeguard lives and protect property, in alignment with company standards and aerodrome licensing requirements.
As a key member of the airport management team, they ensure the Airport Fire Service is seamlessly integrated into the wider airport operation. Working closely with the airport leadership team, they lead the ongoing development and continuous improvement of the service, including its operational policies, procedures, and workforce strategies.
They oversee all aspects of the Airport Fire Service & Emergency Planning, including:
* Recruitment and colleague engagement
* Financial oversight and asset renewal planning
* Training, competence, and performance management
* Regulatory compliance and operational readiness
In the event of a major incident, the Head of Fire Rescue & Emergency Planning provides strategic leadership and subject matter expertise to the Incident Management Team. Their role is critical in ensuring business continuity and prioritising recovery efforts, either through direct involvement or as a designated member of the airport’s Incident Management Team.
The successful Candidate:
We’re looking for a dynamic and experienced leader to head our Airport Fire & Emergency Planning function. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing large, diverse operational teams and a proven ability to develop and implement long-term strategic workforce plans.
You’ll bring excellent forward planning and analytical skills, using data to inform and support key operational decisions. Your communication and influencing abilities will be second to none, enabling you to engage confidently with stakeholders at all levels—from front-line colleagues to senior directors.
We’re seeking someone who is highly self-motivated, creative, and proactive, with the ability to organise and coordinate teams to deliver shared objectives. Experience working within an airport environment—or a similarly complex operational or emergency services setting—is essential.
For this role you must also hold the below:
* NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent as a minimum
* IT literacy
* Valid UK Full Driving Licence – essential
Enhanced Level DBS Disclosure and Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) is required for appointment to this post. Confirmation of this appointment is also subject to a medical assessment.
