To oversee the technical aspects of garment production, from initial design through to final garment production. This includes ensuring that garments meet the required specifications, are manufactured efficiently, and are of high quality.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Garment Construction & Design Support:
Collaborate with designers to review and assess garment samples, ensuring design concepts are achievable and practical for production. Provide technical advice and solutions during the design phase to improve the manufacturability of garments. Set specifications for all initial designs with designers to send to the factory.
2. Fit Analysis and Sampling:
Measure all incoming samples from factory to ensure to spec set at initial request. Conduct fit sessions, evaluating garment prototypes and providing feedback to ensure proper fit, size consistency, and style alignment. Work with designers on consistency of the finishings and fit standards. Develop and maintain a fit library for different styles.
3. Production Planning & Technical Documentation:
Create and maintain technical packs (tech packs), containing all garment specifications such as measurements. Work with suppliers overseas to ensure tech packs are clear, meaning successful sample hit rate. Provide production teams with clear instructions on garment construction, including stitching and finishing techniques.
4. Quality Control:
Conduct quality inspections at various stages of the garment production process to ensure high standards of quality and workmanship. Identify any quality issues early in the production process and work with manufacturers to resolve them. Maintain consistency in sizing and fit across production batches. Work closely with manufacturers, suppliers, and factories to ensure that they are meeting the technical requirements. Evaluate samples, negotiate changes, and support troubleshooting during the production process. Build and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure continuous improvement in garment production processes.
5. Sustainability & Compliance:
Ensure that garments meet relevant industry standards and sustainability guidelines, including material sourcing and ethical manufacturing practices.
Skills & Qualifications:
Experience: At least 2-3 years of experience in garment technology or product development within the fashion industry.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in garment fitting, and construction. Strong knowledge of fabrics, trims, and garment finishing techniques. Experience with garment measurement systems and tools. Experience in Excel for workbook creations. Understanding of garment production processes and manufacturing standards.
Personal Attributes:
Strong attention to detail and ability to spot discrepancies. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Problem-solving ability with a proactive approach. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
The role may involve travel to factories or supplier locations. Office based with Flexible working hours.
