Responsibilities
As a Structures Design Technician, you will play a key role in shaping and safeguarding Suffolk's infrastructure by bringing engineering designs to life. You'll support the delivery of bridges and structural improvement projects from initial investigation through to detailed design, working closely with project managers, engineers, councillors, external specialists and local communities. Your work will range from producing technical drawings and bills of quantities to preparing risk assessments and essential documentation that enables our Infrastructure Operations teams to get to work on site. You'll help ensure schemes progress smoothly by coordinating with statutory bodies, monitoring site activities, keeping data systems accurate and supporting compliance with key legislation. This is a role where your technical precision, creativity and problem solving skills directly contribute to safe, efficient and future ready highways for the people of Suffolk.
Qualifications
* A solid technical foundation with a Level 3 qualification in an engineering discipline and developing skills in AutoCAD, GIS, and data management systems.
* An analytical and detail focused mindset.
* Strong communication and collaboration skills.
* Good organisational and planning abilities.
* A flexible, proactive and safety conscious approach, with the ability to adapt to new challenges.
The Team
You will be working within the team responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and construction of highway structures, working in collaboration with the Highway Services Contractor and their supply chain partners. The team is responsible for inspecting and assessing a wide range of structures throughout the County and for prioritising, developing and implementing maintenance and strengthening works required to ensure that structures remain safe for use and fit for purpose. Suffolk Highways is a collaboration between Suffolk County Council and private sector service provider(s) to meet the primary objective of maintaining the highway network and infrastructure in Suffolk.
