Job Title: 2nd Line Support Engineer
Job Description
The Support Engineer provides installation, maintenance and troubleshooting for computer systems, applications and related components, covering both hardware and software. The role focuses on ensuring that operational computer and network systems perform securely, reliably and efficiently, so that business requirements are consistently met at agreed levels of performance, security and availability. The Support Engineer works within established operating procedures and collaborates closely with colleagues across IT and external vendors.
Responsibilities
1. Support, maintain, develop and troubleshoot operational network, computer and telecommunication systems, including related hardware and software components.
2. Perform hardware and software installations, upgrades and ongoing maintenance for networked computer systems, components and applications.
3. Implement measures to improve the performance, security and availability of operating systems, components and applications.
4. Monitor and document operational statistics for operating systems, applications and hardware, including usage, performance, security and access, errors and availability.
5. Assist in developing and enhancing network computer systems, operating systems, applications and related components.
6. Work closely with Network Administrators to monitor, analyse and troubleshoot local area networks and associated components.
7. Ensure that business data and systems are adequately protected and backed up in line with existing procedures and guidelines.
8. Install, configure, troubleshoot and maintain end-user systems and applications, providing effective technical support.
9. Stay up to date with relevant technology developments and industry best practices, and investigate their applicability to the organisation.
10. Participate in projects in collaboration with other IT departments and external vendors, contributing technical expertise and support.
11. Perform other related duties as required to support the effective operation of IT systems and services.
Essential Skills
12. Proven experience in supporting, maintaining and troubleshooting computer systems, applications and related hardware and software components.
13. Strong knowledge of operating systems, including experience with Windows environments.
14. Hands-on experience with Linux-based systems and associated troubleshooting.
15. Practical experience in remote deployment and support of systems and applications.
16. Ability to monitor, analyse and document system performance, usage, security and availability.
17. experience in installing, configuring and maintaining end-user devices and applications.
18. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across hardware, software and network issues.
19. Ability to work effectively within established operating procedures and standards.
20. Good communication skills, with the ability to collaborate closely with technical colleagues and external vendors.
