The project:
Our consultancy division has existing working relationships with local authorities in the areas of Hampshire and Berkshire. We are working on the design, construction, maintenance and repairs of existing buildings within local authority property portfolios. We have recently been successful in securing another local authority Building Surveying Framework Contract throughout Surrey. Planned capital expenditure is crucial for our client and we ensure that their projects are successfully delivered. With this exciting opportunity ahead of us, we are looking to strengthen our Building Surveying London, South/South East teams headed from our London Office.

– Local Authority Client Contract and wider London Team commissions. This is an exciting role for experienced Building Surveyors to be part of a growing, dynamic Building Surveying Team working predominantly on local authority client projects and commissions, but also being part of the growing London based Building Surveying Team. Although the roles relate predominantly to the delivery of projects and commissions aligned to the local authority contract, there will be opportunities to work on other client workstreams and commissions within the wider London/South/South East Building Surveying team.
You’ll be responsible for:
5. Preparing feasibility studies, reports and recommendations.
6. Scoping, estimating and presenting reports.
7. Cost management and providing budget estimates.
8. Undertaking surveys, design and specification services.
9. Respecting and help delivering services in accordance with best practice (and all relevant legislation) in relation to asbestos, health and safety etc.
10. Preparing a timely and effective post contract administration and final account agreement.
11. Taking personal responsibility for service delivery and working as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team.
12. Interfacing with the client and other colleagues and consultants, at all project stages.
13. Ensuring that key information and learning generated from each commission is input into the internal Client database as required.
14. Assisting with new technology for data capture and reporting.
15. Scoping and delivery of asset maintenance projects including typical Building Surveying type projects such as: roof replacements, fabric improvements, external decoration, external fenestration and window replacements, external boundary treatment projects and internal repair/re-modelling works.
16. Undertake energy efficiency upgrade projects on the local authority portfolio. For example, insulation and fabric upgrades.
17. Carry out inspections and provide advice on the condition of existing properties within the local authority portfolio.
18. Be prepared to undertake specific training in relation to the local authority systems such as PLANON project milestone and gateway project systems.
19. Identify and communicate any key risks to project delivery to your immediate Line Manger/wider team.
20. Preparing design specifications and schedules of work, including the use of NBS software.
21. Provide full contract administration services using preferred construction contracts such as the JCT Suite etc.
22. Undertake stakeholder engagement as necessary during project and programme of work delivery.
You’ll need to have:
23. Ability to work in a client focused environment with excellent service delivery and care.
24. Communicate effectively to colleagues, clients and stakeholders alike.
25. Must be self-motivated and organised.
26. Detailed knowledge of construction technology, pathology, technical issues and construction processes
27. Be familiars with asset management legislation including fire safety, legionella, asbestos management and Health & Safety
28. Hold a full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
29. Previous building surveying experience in a live consultancy environment.
30. Good, well rounded technical knowledge and competency in building surveying.
31. Good negotiation, presentation and report writing skills.
32. Strong IT skills, including Excel, Microsoft and AutoCAD.
You'll also have:
33. A degree in Building Surveying or equivalent.
34. Professional memberships i.e. MRICS/MCIOB. (Not essential but must be working towards full membership/qualifications).
