About the role
We are recruiting for a Data Scientist to be accountable for the delivery of sophisticated data science solutions ensuring adherence to governance standards, policies and regulatory guidelines.
Working closely with business functions to understand their challenges and opportunities, the Data Scientist will apply their curiosity and enthusiasm for data to create solutions in support of member outcomes and the Society’s strategic plan.
The person in post will be recognised as an expert in Data Science and will use their knowledge to prepare, model and engineer data, develop sophisticated models and present progress and results using compelling data visualisations and story-telling techniques.

About you
To be successful in this role it’s essential that you will have:
* A strong understanding of statistical concepts, such as probability theory, regression or Bayesian statistics.
* Experience of writing functional python programming code
* Experience with Data Wrangling using SQL or Pyspark
* Confident with exploring the suitability of data ahead of a machine learning or statistical model build
* Experience of statistics and machine learning techniques such as GBM, Random Forests, Ensemble models
* Excellent c ommunication and presentation skills with the ability to convey complex ideas simply, and with a clear narrative
Desirable experience needed will be:
* Experience or knowledge of financial services sector
