Job Description:


Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

This position will provide administrative support in all aspects of the operation of the Business Office to include all revenue due and collected.

Primary responsibilities include assisting students and the general public by answering inquiries related to fiscal policies and the operation of the business office, entering all forms of payments in the PeopleSoft/SIS system, verifying and attaching third party tuition payment authorizations to contracts, preparing daily deposit and associated documentation, and process/maintain student and library accounts in the college accounts receivable database. The position will be expected to work effectively with Portsmouth campus academic division and student services offices, Payroll, AIS, Facilities Management, Material Management and other internal offices. Minimum Qualifications:

1. Experience in bookkeeping, business, industry, retail sales, or banking.
2. Ability to review and interpret contracts.
3. Ability to use computers and various computer software programs including spreadsheets, word processing and communication packages.
4. Knowledge of state regulations for revenue collection of state and local funds.
5. Experience in cashiering functions including handling large sums of money.
6. Knowledge of effective customer service, critical thinking, problem solving, and proof-reading methods.
7. Skills in office procedures as well as oral and written communication.
8. Ability to handle a variety of diverse duties in a customer service environment.
9. Ability to organize work and make independent decisions within college guidelines.
10. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with office staff, students, faculty, and general public
