AHP Team Manager – Dietetics and Speech Therapy in Surgery

The role is based at The York Hospital and will involve leading the adult dietetic and speech and language therapy services within the Surgery Care Group, covering critical care, in‑patients wards and out‑patients.
Main duties of the job
* Staff management, recruitment, induction, appraisal, locality training and service development.
* Shift and workload allocation, rota planning.
* Support from other team managers and clinical leads.
Qualifications & experience
* Relevant degree or equivalent with current HCPC registration.
* Broad postgraduate experience in a relevant clinical setting, including senior level responsibility for other team members.
* Experience in managing complex clinical presentations and multi‑pathology patients.
* Experience of patient advocacy and skills development.
* Experience as a clinical supervisor to graduate‑level students.
* Knowledge of workplace and clinical risk evaluation and management.
* Evidence of audit contribution, complex discharge planning and prescription of specialist equipment.
* Recognition of postgraduate training within a specialist area; validated clinical courses; relevant MSc modules.
* State registration with relevant professional body and membership of appropriate clinical support or network group.
* Experience working in a client‑driven NHS environment.

Experience and Knowledge
* Broad range of postgraduate experience within relevant clinical settings, including senior level responsibility for team members.
* Managing a wide range of conditions with evidence of complex clinical practice.
* Acting as a patient advocate.
* Supporting others in skills development (clinical workload, discharge planning, time management, caseload, specialist equipment prescription).
* Active contribution to audit.
* Clinical, organisational and managerial knowledge with complex problem‑solving ability.
* Working with patients who have multi‑pathology presentations.
* Taking a lead role within a team.
* Passing on specialist skills/knowledge in formal and informal environments.
* Experience as clinical supervisor to graduate level students.
* Knowledge of workplace and clinical risk evaluation and management.
* Recognised postgraduate training in a specialist area.
* Validated clinical courses.
* Relevant MSc modules.
* Professional body registration.
* Membership of appropriate clinical support or network group.

Qualifications and Training
* Diploma/Degree in relevant profession and Health Profession Council Registration.
* Evidence of relevant CPD, specialist clinical courses or work alongside specialist clinicians.
* Practice placement qualification or training.
* Willingness to undertake agreed training in management/clinical skills.
* Team‑leader experience within relevant setting.
* Advanced knowledge of a broad range of conditions.
* Presentation and teaching skills within large group or classroom.
* Record of health promotion, lifestyle choices and integration with external organisations.
* Experience with specialist equipment provision.
* Contribution to specialist/national/regional network groups.
* Contribution to specialist training within university environment.
