The Total Pelvic Exenteration Nurse Specialist will provide expert nursing care, leadership, and guidance within this highly specialised service. Using advanced clinical knowledge, extensive experience, and a high level of decision‑making skill, the post holder will:

1. Deliver expert clinical practice and specialist advice to patients, families, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
2. Work autonomously, managing their own complex caseload as the lead specialist within this field.
3. Provide specialist education, training, and support to nursing and clinical staff to enhance skills, knowledge, and service capability.
4. Collaborate closely with the multidisciplinary team to continually develop and improve services, ensuring high standards and quality of care.
5. Lead the planning, development, and evaluation of clinical services related to Total Pelvic Exenteration, ensuring alignment with national standards and best practice.
6. Demonstrate and role‑model the Health Board’s values, promoting a culture of professionalism, compassion, and excellence across the service.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Practice

7. Assess, plan, manage, and coordinate the care of patients throughout their surgical and oncological pathway, ensuring the effective and efficient use of available resources.
8. Undertake comprehensive inpatient reviews, including wound assessments and initial stoma education, providing clear information, reassurance, and early intervention where needed.
9. Meet and support patients on the day of surgery, offering preparation, information, and holistic support at this critical stage.
10. Lead and manage nurse‑led outpatient clinics, delivering expert assessment, follow‑up, and continuity of care.
11. Provide holistic needs assessments and develop personalised care plans for each patient at key stages of the pathway, including timely referral to the MDT, Macmillan services, voluntary sector organisations, and other relevant support services.

Coordination

12. Maintain and monitor the surveillance database, ensuring timely follow‑up of patients in line with national and local pathways.
13. Chase, review, and action histology results, ensuring appropriate escalation and communication.
14. Organise and participate in MDT reviews and ongoing oncology discussions.
15. Lead or contribute to the development of evidence‑based policies, protocols.
16. Make recommendations regarding equipment, supplies, and resource utilisation, ensuring safe, effective, and cost‑efficient service delivery

23. Registered Nurse and current NMC Registration
24. Relevant Master’s degree or able to demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge, skills and experience to academic level.

26. Able to undertake a literature search and critically appraise research papers
