Your role:
As a Trainee Public Health Analyst, you’ll join Wigan Council’s Performance and Insight Unit, supporting public health initiatives through data analysis and insight. You’ll work with colleagues across the council, NHS, and voluntary sectors, translating complex data into actionable intelligence. You’ll undertake a Level 7 Health & Care Intelligence Specialist Apprenticeship, combining hands on analytical work with structured learning. You won’t manage others but will collaborate widely and receive strong support from an experienced analyst team.
About you:
We’re looking for someone who is inquisitive, driven, and passionate about using data to make a real difference in public health. You’ll need a relevant degree (2:1 or above) in a numerate, health, or social science discipline, or equivalent experience. You should be confident working with data tools like Excel, Power BI, or SQL, and able to communicate insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Flexibility, initiative, and the ability to manage competing priorities are key, as you’ll balance apprenticeship learning with workplace responsibilities. A commitment to ethical data use, continuous learning, and collaborative working is essential, along with a genuine desire to improve health outcomes for communities.

This role offers a clear pathway for career progression. Advancement will be based on the consistent demonstration of the required knowledge, skills, and experience associated with the position. Progression may occur upon successful completion of the Level 7 Health & Care Intelligence Specialist Apprenticeship, or earlier, depending on individual performance and the ability to meet the expectations of a more senior role.
You must be in a position to start the role by 19th December 2025 at the latest due to apprenticeship provider deadlines.
