Apply Now About the role Balfour Beatty are looking for several Senior Laboratory Technician to join our Major Projects Team, based at Hinkley Point, Bridgwater, with travel Avonmouth and other locations when required An Amazing opportunity to work on a large-scale project At Hinkley Point Balfour Beatty are delivering one of the most complex marine engineering projects currently taking place in the world to support the construction of the first new nuclear power station built in the UK in a generation. The project will see the construction of three tunnels under the seabed that will supply the two reactors at Hinkley Point C with cooling water and then discharge it back into the Bristol Channel. Our experts will use state-of-the-art technology to excavate a total of nine kilometres of tunnel, which will be lined with 38,000 concrete segments forming 6000 lining rings. The tunnels will be connected to the seabed by vertical shafts and capped with large intake and outfall heads, each weighing close to 5000 tonnes, that allow sea water to pass into the tunnels. Both the concrete segments and the heads are under manufactured to exacting specifications at a purpose-built state-of-the-art facility at Balfour Beattys site in Avonmouth, Bristol. As a Senior Laboratory Technician, you will be a valuable member of the materials technical team supporting the Marine works project. Working within the UKAS accredited laboratory, the role includes the sampling and testing of materials on site, primarily concrete, as well as routine management of activities and junior personnel. What you'll be doing Other key responsibilities will be: Establishing and maintaining safe methods of work for the materials team on site and in the laboratory Plan and undertake inspection and testing on site and in the laboratory as required by the contract, immediately identifying and reporting areas of risk and opportunity Maintain high standards of work and compliance with UKAS accreditation requirements Comply with the site quality system for the materials testing laboratory, including materials reporting Deliver results by deadlines as required by the contract and project teams Maintain equipment calibrations and notify the lab manager of any defects Producing summary compliance reports of material compliance as required by the contract Undertake audits of Laboratory Quality System on the project, and other contracts as required, ensuring identified findings are closed out Manage dispatch of samples to external test laboratories and review reports Daily allocation of testing resources Training and development of junior staff Who we're looking for You will have the following: Previous experience working in a UKAS accredited laboratory, and working with construction materials and specifications Experience in auditing, training / development of junior staff and monthly KPI reporting Experienced in creating and reviewing risk assessments, methods statements Materials technical experience hold a valid CSCS card and a full driving licence The project operates shift patterns to support tunnelling activities at various times, and it is expected that the successful candidate will be involved in these rotations.
