Overview
Join to apply for the Consultant in Ear, Nose & Throat role at NHS Ayrshire & Arran. This is a full time permanent position based at University Hospital Crosshouse, with outpatient clinics at University Hospital Crosshouse and University Hospital Ayr. The department includes a Head and Neck Directorate with dedicated teams across ENT, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Restorative Dentistry, and Orthodontics. ENT, as part of the Head & Neck Directorate within Surgical Services, provides adult and paediatric ENT services to the Ayrshire & Arran catchment population of 375,000. The post offers an opportunity to join a growing team from six to eight ENT Consultants and to contribute to service development and high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
* Provide general adult and paediatric ENT care as part of an established team of surgeons, including Head and Neck Cancer Surgeons and Cochlear Implant surgeons.
* Participate in consultant on-call rota (currently 1:6, with prospective cover; this will move toward 1:8 with recruitment) with support from a fully populated middle grade tier.
* Take an active role in the ENT service: assessment of patients, MDT involvement, surgery, and follow-up as required.
* Contribute to service development, clinical audit, and research activities.
* Engage in specialist clinics (e.g., middle ear implant, neck lump/head and neck oncology, cochlear clinic, balance clinic) and participate in multidisciplinary team activities.
* Collaborate with the wider Head and Neck Directorate to deliver high-quality care across both adult and paediatric ENT services.
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration and inclusion on the GMC Specialist List in ENT (or demonstrable equivalent training and experience).
* A demonstrable interest in general adult and paediatric ENT and a track record aligned to higher specialist training.
Terms and Conditions
* New Consultant Contract (Scotland) 2004 terms; sessions offered on a 10 PA basis. Applications from individuals who may wish to work fewer programmed activities are welcomed.
* On-call duties supported by a middle grade tier; current rota is 1:6, moving to 1:8 with recruitment.
