Overview
Staffordshire County Council, situated in the heart of the Midlands with excellent transport links, is a progressive authority with a friendly Legal Services department. The post involves litigation in a wide variety of areas including Trading Standards. The post holder must be able to undertake their own advocacy alongside casework in all areas of litigation undertaken by the Council which includes prosecutions and civil litigation. A clean current driving licence is essential for attendance at court at multiple courts in Staffordshire and the West Midlands.

Main Responsibilities
* Completing all aspects of moderately complex Litigation casework and advising client departments, drafting court paperwork and undertaking appropriate court hearings with limited supervision
* Conducting advocacy in court in Litigation matters (both civil and criminal)
* Delivering on key projects to meet team objectives and improve service delivery
* Adherence to the Legal Services Unit’s quality standards (Lexcel) to maintain professional standards
* Undertaking in-service training as required by the training plan and facilitating in-service training of staff and client departments
* Handling confidential data sensitively and securely in accordance with policy
The Ideal Candidate
* Qualified Chartered Legal Executive, Solicitor or Barrister with a comprehensive understanding of prosecutions and civil litigation
* Understanding of public sector work, with local government experience not essential
* Ability to clearly, confidently and effectively communicate
* Meticulous attention to detail
* Effective time management and prioritisation under pressure
* Ability to delegate work to generate capacity
