Location: Barrow‑in‑Furness
Salary: Up to £60,000 basic

Progressive GE & one of the UK's largest independent Engineering & Services Contractors are recruiting for a Mechanical Site Engineer, for a major programme of works up at Barrow-in-Furness.
This client operate across major infrastructure, energy and technology projects nationwide with a strong reputation for delivering high‑quality building services installations on complex, regulated sites.

MECHANICAL SITE ENGINEER ROLE
This Mechanical Site Engineer role will suit someone who enjoys proper hands‑on mechanical engineering and prefers being on site each day rather than sat behind a desk.
You will be joining a respected engineering contractor delivering a major Navy upgrade project within a nuclear‑regulated environment. The work is part of a wider programme to modernise the Barrow-in-Furness site so it can support future submarine production commitments. It is secure, strategically important and offers genuine long‑term stability.
The team is delivering a multi‑disciplinary M&E package worth around £10 million for this phase with more work expected to follow. You will be joining a well‑structured site team where practical experience, reliability and a steady approach are valued highly.
The Mechanical Site Engineer Role Involves:
5. Delivering building‑services focused mechanical installation
6. Supporting daily activity across lighting, HVAC, pipework, chillers, security fencing and civil interfaces tied to mechanical packages
7. Working closely with supervisors to maintain progress, safety checks and quality standards
8. Solving practical issues on site and keeping work fronts moving
9. Ensuring tasks are carried out safely within nuclear‑regulated requirements
They Are Looking For:
10. British Nationals only due to nuclear regulatory rules
11. Able to meet BPSS security checks
12. Strong background in mechanical building services
13. Experience in regulated settings such as nuclear, defence or energy is ideal
14. Apprentice‑trained or vocational route valued
15. HNC / HND / Degree or Qualified By Experience
16. Confident working in a boots‑on‑the‑ground engineering role
17. Comfortable coordinating site activity and supporting daily delivery
Working Pattern:
18. Monday to Friday
19. Early start on Monday
20. Early finish on Friday around lunchtime
21. Long‑term programme with consistent pipeline expected
