Environmental Field Scientist
We are recruiting for an Environmental Field Scientist to undertake a range of environmental surveys at our farms.
Working within the Mowi environment team you will be responsible for monitoring the environmental effects of our operations delivering a programme of environmental surveying to meet our regulatory compliance obligations for existing sites. In addition, you will undertake baseline surveying at potential new site locations and ad hoc environmental monitoring and marine habitat surveying.
This role is a full time post, and the successful candidate will be required to work 40 hours per week. Working on board vessels is a key part of the role and there will be a requirement for periodic living on board vessels during extended or a succession environmental surveys.
About the job
* You will undertake seabed compliance monitoring from vessels during standalone environmental surveys or as part of a succession of surveys aboard Mowi’s dedicated survey vessel with durations ranging from one to seven days.
* A key requirement of the role is the ability to Interpret environmental datasets including marine benthic fauna.
* You will ensure that the processes and requirements for regulatory compliance monitoring and reporting of data is carried out to the required performance standards laid out in SEPAs quality assurance certification scheme - Measurement Assurance and Certification Scotland (MACS).
* The position requires familiarisation with, and the ability to operate a range of seabed/seawater sampling devices and underwater cameras to support the collection of wider environmental data at sites.
* You will support the delivery of the team’s wider programme of field monitoring work as required, including baseline surveying at potential new site locations and investigatory site monitoring.
* When required you will coordinate and facilitate delivery of required environmental surveying services from external consultancies and service providers.
* You will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the teams environmental surveying equipment to required design, calibration, and maintenance requirements.
* You will support research and development projects, both external where Mowi is an industry partner, but also internal team investigatory environmental projects as required.
* You will support the delivery of licencing and environmental compliance as a core function of team activities, providing advice and technical discussion on environmental data, including assistance to other team members and support teams as required.

The skills and attributes we are looking for include:
* Qualified to a degree level in marine science or other comparable discipline or equivalent knowledge gained from working in a relevant position within the industry.
* Practical work experience within the industry or experience of undertaking marine environmental surveys secured from previous relevant academic or work-related experiences.
* A strong understanding of what constitutes environmental compliance and be able to identify the cause of non-compliance and analyse and determine appropriate actions to rectify.
* An appreciation of a range of environmental impacts and assessment techniques.
* An ability to communicate findings and analysis of non-compliance in a clear, concise way that benefits the company to senior managers.
* Able to demonstrate an ability to use relevant monitoring tools, techniques, systems, and practices relevant to the role.
* A flexible approach to working to meet the demands of the job is essential.
* The ability to integrate into a multidisciplinary team operating in a busy, diverse and fast paced environment.
