About The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Child and Family Social Workers to join our Disabled Children's Team. The team has a stable and supportive management team, and is well integrated into the wider child in need service. We welcome applicants who have not previously worked in Disabled Children's Teams, but are keen to learn. The team works across Child in Need, Child Protection, Looked After Children, PLO and court work. For workers who enjoy a variety on their caseloads, then this is a great opportunity for learning and practice development. We work with a very diverse range of families and take pride in our multi-agency working, ensuring that there is equity for our families, and working collaboratively with children, young people and their parents.

This particular recruitment drive is for qualified social workers, ideally with a minimum of 18 months' experience.Please note that newly qualified social workers need to apply for roles in Islington Children's Social Care via our ASYE Academy.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be responsible for working with disabled children and their siblings in need of help and protection or looked after children, whilst maintaining the focus on safeguarding. You will work directly with the child or young person and their family or carer to build empathic, purposeful relationships that facilitate meaningful and sustainable change, develop support plans for families in need of short breaks and additional services to meet needs of the disabled child, as well as stability in placement and permanency for looked after children.

You will have, and demonstrate a clear understanding of inequities, how they affect different sections of our community, and the role that strategy and improvement can play in supporting better equality, diversity, and inclusion outcomes.

You can influence the development of services, support and/or practice by:

* effectively interacting, working with, and developing meaningful relationships with people of various cultural backgrounds
* interpreting issues and concerns from a cultural perspective and addressing situations or challenges from the points-of-view of multiple cultures
* recognising and advancing equity, diversity and inclusion through your actions
Motivational Trauma Informed Practice

You will confidently model motivational trauma informed practice. You will be available to your team in sharing your experience and support Social Workers in alignment with Islington’s Practice model through coaching, consultation and co-working. You will lead on developing areas of practice.

You will share and exercise the organisational practice ethos which places Motivational Practice and trauma-informed practice at the heart of working with families. You will be ambitious for every child to reach their potential in all aspects of their development including education, health and emotional wellbeing.

You will manage the specific set of tasks relating to statutory and non-statutory case responsibility for children in need of help and protection, in public care and young people leaving care with the support of an appropriately qualified supervisor.

To develop a culture of trauma-informed practice that helps to improve the quality of relationships with children and young people, through Motivational Practice.

Some posts are subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
The post is subject toan enhanced DBS check with children barred list, Social Work England registration, qualifications check and 5 years referencing.
