Qualified SLD Teacher (Severe Learning Difficulty)

Location: Specialist Learning Community
Pay: MPS/UPS Fringe + SEN Allowance
Start Date: January 2026

We are recruiting on behalf of a highly regarded specialist learning community for a qualified teacher to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the Senior Leadership Team and play a key role in the continued development of a dedicated Severe Learning Difficulty (SLD) pathway.

The school is part of a growing specialist provision and has been recognised by Ofsted for maintaining high standards, with previous inspections judging elements of the provision as Outstanding and Good. The setting supports learners with a wide range of complex needs and is committed to inclusive, high-quality education.

Learners within the community present with moderate to severe learning difficulties, which may include speech and communication needs, autism, and global developmental delay.

Job Purpose

To deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences for learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring individual needs are met and that every learner is supported to exceed their perceived potential.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

Plan and deliver meaningful, creative, and engaging lessons tailored to the diverse needs of SEND learners.

Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes engagement and participation.

Use a wide range of teaching strategies and resources, recognising that one size does not fit all.

Plan lessons that promote active learning, with skills and knowledge applied to real-life contexts in line with the curriculum.

Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

Develop, implement, and review EHCPs in collaboration with parents, carers, and external professionals.

Monitor and assess learner progress against EHCP targets and adapt provision as required.

Ensure EHCPs are up to date and reflect learners' current needs and aspirations.

Embed EHCP provision into daily practice.

Work closely with the pathway leader to ensure outcomes are SMART and meaningful.

Assessment

Complete and maintain assessment information to track progress and identify areas for improvement, including behaviour data, EHCP outcomes, Evidence for Learning, phonics, and flight paths.

Use assessment data to plan targeted interventions and improve outcomes.

Provide constructive feedback to learners and parents/carers.

Leading a Team of Staff

Lead and manage a team of teaching assistants and support staff.

Provide guidance, training, and ongoing support to ensure effective SEND provision.

Foster a positive, collaborative working environment.

Conduct appraisals for relevant team members.

Curriculum Development

Contribute to the development and adaptation of the curriculum to meet SEND learner needs across pathways.

Ensure the curriculum is accessible, relevant, and engaging, including planning educational visits.

Share best practice and resources with colleagues.

Attend all CPD opportunities and embed learning into classroom practice.

Adapting Learning

Adapt activities and materials to meet individual learner needs.

Use assistive technology and specialist resources to support learning.

Continuously evaluate and refine teaching approaches to improve outcomes.

Collaboration with Stakeholders

Work closely with parents, carers, and external agencies to support learner development.

Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings and reviews.

Communicate effectively to ensure a consistent and joined-up approach to SEND provision.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Strong communication and organisational skills.

Previous SEND experience is not essential; a willingness to learn and develop is key.
