Nurse / Midwife Practitioner - 36 hours 12m FTC

About the role
Provide high‑quality clinical care to clients across a range of BPAS reproductive healthcare services including termination of pregnancy, STI testing & treatment, contraception & vasectomy. Involved in all stages of the client pathway from consultation through to treatment and will work in all areas of the unit including theatre and recovery. Also provide treatment & clinical information to clients in person and over the phone.
About You
Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or Practising Midwife with active NMC registration and PIN. Minimum of 12 months clinical practice experience and keen interest in sexual health & reproductive healthcare. Clinical knowledge & experience of safeguarding and Fraser‑Gillick competencies essential. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with compassion and empathy for clients.
Main duties of the job
* Work in accordance with NMC guidelines, the Abortion Act 1967 and Health & Social Care Act, and BPAS clinical policies.
* Ensure the client understands her options and that any choice of termination meets the Abortion Act.
* Provide information on STI testing, undertake tests, deliver results and discuss contraception options.
* Implement procedures indicated in client case notes, including administering medication for medical abortion or cervical preparation.
* Carry out post‑treatment check‑ups, assessing physical condition and discussing concerns.
* Complete relevant paperwork and, if post‑treatment problems arise, arrange with the clinic or refer to an NHS agency.
* Care for and support clients undergoing surgical treatments, covering general anaesthetic, conscious sedation or local anaesthetic.

* Sound administrative competence with attention to detail.
* Gynaecological nursing experience or relevant specialty such as sexual health or contraception.
* Venepuncture and cannulation skills.
* Comfortable using IT and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Teams).

Job Details
* Salary: £39,959 – £46,656 per annum (pro‑rata for part‑time).
* Contract: 12 months fixed term covering maternity leave.
* Hours: 36 hours per week.
* Shift pattern: Monday–Thursday 08:30‑16:30; Friday 08:30‑14:30.
Location: Main unit with mileage paid to second unit.
BPAS Newcastle‑upon‑Tyne – 1st Floor, New England House, Ridley Place, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 8JW.
BPAS South Shields – Cleadon Park Primary Care Centre, 10 Prince Edward Road, South Shields NE34 8PS.

Qualifications
* Registered Adult Nurse Level 1 or Registered Midwife (practising).
* Active NMC registration and valid PIN.
* Ultrasound scanning skills.
Experience
* Minimum 12 months clinical practice experience.
* Experience in general nursing or midwifery.
* Experience completing client documentation and working within guidelines, policies and procedures.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety, COSHH requirements and infection control.
* Gynaecological nursing experience or relevant specialty such as sexual health or contraception.

* This role covers two locations: South Shields and Newcastle‑upon‑Tyne. Can you travel between both locations?
