The HCS team design, build and run all our hosting infrastructure including Public Cloud and On-Premises hosting and helping product and service owners to transition to the Cloud. The successful candidate will be joining the HCS Backup Service team as a Backup and Recovery Infrastructure Engineer. This team is responsible for the administration and ongoing improvement of the organisation’s backup infrastructure with a mission to deliver a high level of service to all service owners, ensuring that all DWP mission critical data is protected and recoverable. As a Backup and Recovery Infrastructure Engineer for Hybrid Cloud Services, you will be capable of role modelling Infrastructure solutions which adhere to best practice, with a focus on operational stability, resilience, and availability. This position will collaborate with Architects, Site Reliability Engineers, Delivery Managers, and Product Managers, who all support the implementation and operation of Cloud hosted products and services. We ensure that we’re aligned to the Department’s Technical Reference Architecture (TRA) and Security and Compliance Standards in all stages of development and delivery. Role & Responsibilities
* Support the design and implementation of Public Cloud and On-Premises backup infrastructure services/solutions to meet strategic plans and roadmaps.
* Responsible for operational management of Public Cloud and On-Premises hosted backup technologies, products, and services, with a focus on security, availability, resilience, performance, and recoverability.
* Provide specialist service/solution technical support and assistance to junior staff and users.
* Development and implementation of service improvement plans to address identified issues for Public Cloud and On-Premises hosted backup technologies, products, and services.
* Take a lead role with customer and internal teams to resolve problems, maintain / manage backup and archiving operations and when necessary, returning systems to operational status.
* Responsibility for management and resolution of Backup Major Incidents for Public Cloud and On-Premises hosted technologies, products, and services.
* Monitor and respond to security alerts related to backup infrastructure (e.g. unauthorised access, suspected ransomware) and actioning backup failures.
* Collaborate with security teams during major incidents, DWP audits and Security upgrades.
* Participation in Monthly Service and Risk Reviews.
* Working with both Linux and/or Windows operating systems.
Please note: As part of this role, you may be expected to work out of hours to support the upgrade and migrations of services across our cloud and on prem estate. Full training and support will be provided.
