Job Title: Painter and Decorator
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Painter and Decorator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing surfaces, applying paints and finishes, and ensuring a high-quality finish in both residential and communal environments. This role requires strong attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship. Travelling between the Hilda Schemes which are located in Thornaby, Hartlepool, Gateshead and Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare surfaces by washing, scraping, sanding, filling holes and cracks, and removing old paint or wallpaper.
Apply primers, undercoats, and finishing coats using brushes, rollers, or spray equipment.
Protect surrounding areas and furnishings using drop cloths and masking tape.
Clean tools and equipment after use and maintain them in good condition.
Follow all health and safety regulations and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Carry out touch-ups and repairs as required.
Work independently or as part of a team on various interior and exterior projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Proven experience as a painter and decorator or similar role.
Knowledge of painting materials, techniques, and surface preparation.
Attention to detail and a high standard of finish.
Ability to work at heights and use ladders or scaffolding.
Physical stamina and manual dexterity.
Good communication and customer service skills.
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Painting and Decorating (or equivalent) is preferred.
Basic IT literacy with the ability to use multiple communication platforms to provide updates and coordination.
Desirable Traits:
Reliable, punctual, and professional.
Able to work to tight deadlines and under pressure.
Full driving license required.
Typical Work Environment:
Work may be carried out indoors or outdoors, in homes and communal areas.
Typical working hours 9am – 5pm : Monday – Friday with 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
Salary £26k - £28k depending on experience.
