Join to apply for the Gastroenterology Consultant role at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We are expanding our gastroenterology and hepatology team in conjunction with the launch of our Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) in West Swindon, targeted for Jan 2025, and we will operate across the Great Western Hospital site and the CDC.
Job responsibilities
* Provide multidisciplinary team (MDT) care and participate in regular MDT discussions with colleagues, delivering evidence-based care in a multidisciplinary setting.
* Maintain responsibility for patient care within your remit, including associated administrative duties with secretarial support.
* Work with the latest equipment (e.g., Olympus scopes) across sites and contribute to ERCP, EUS, BCSP, Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy, oesophageal dilatation, and one GA list per month; plans to incorporate oesophageal stenting into future gastroenterology screening lists.
* Develop and lead a subspecialty interest; interest in Nutrition/IBD/Hepatology encouraged.
* Collaborate with Upper GI and HPB cancer teams with John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford.
* Engage with MDTs supported by pathology, radiology, and surgical colleagues.
* Contribute to training and supervision of junior colleagues; participate in staff wellbeing initiatives.
About the role and environment
You will join a well-established, friendly team with a secretary and office space. You will help drive service improvements and deliver high-quality patient care across two sites. The post holder will be expected to deliver training and supervision and to be flexible in line with service needs.
Qualifications
* Fully registered with the GMC
* CCT (or equivalent for non-UK applicants) or be accredited (or equivalent), and be on the GMC Specialist Register in the specialty at the time of taking up the appointment; or be within 6 months of CCT at interview.
* MRCP (UK) / MRCP (Gastroenterology) or equivalent
* CESR (Gastroenterology)
Clinical Experience
* Clinical training/experience equivalent to UK CCT requirements
* Expertise in the full range of gastrointestinal conditions
* Ability to lead a multi-professional team and independently manage patient care
* Sub-specialty interests supported
Management and Administration
* Ability to prioritise and manage multiple duties
* Demonstrable multi-disciplinary team leadership skills
* Experience with audit and management; flexible approach to work organisation; ability to lead project teams
