Overview

An exciting opportunity to join CIU with a 2-year training programme tied to a level 2 BTEC course in Healthcare Science. The role includes 20% study/off-the-job learning and provides progression to further qualifications (level 4 in cardio/respiratory or separate; level 6 degree courses in Cardio or Resp Physiology; Masters). The qualification combines competence and knowledge to recognise and develop practical skills in the healthcare science environment.

The role is designed for Healthcare Science Assistants as an induction to the profession, with opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and study abilities, including reflective practice and gaining a nationally-recognised Level 2 qualification.


Main duties / Responsibilities

* Work effectively as part of the Clinical Investigations Unit (CIU) team to provide a high-quality service to patients.
* Perform 12-lead ECGs in various clinical settings, collaborating with colleagues, clinicians, patients and relatives.
* Undertake study and off-the-job learning as part of the BTEC Level 2 qualification and attain/maintain professional ECG certification (SCST Certificate in Electrocardiography).
* Assist in the professional and operational delivery of CIU services, including shared work allocation and training of other staff.


About Us

We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (Barrow), the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (Lancaster), and Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal), plus community sites including Millom Hospital, GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital (Morecambe) and Ulverston Community Health Centre. Services include Emergency/General Hospital, diagnostic, therapies, outpatient and inpatient care, with local outreach and diagnostics across Morecambe Bay.

Job Description & Person Specification

Essential qualifications:

* Grade 4/C GCSE Maths
* Grade 4/C GCSE English
* Interest in cardiac and respiratory physiology
* Team worker and flexible
* Willing to undertake the BTEC course and SCST course

Desirable:

* Experience in ECGs
* IT skills
* Team-working abilities
