HORTICULTURAL MANAGER
Do you want to work in the independent sector where can utilise your talents within every area of the Plant Area, including Purchasing, Seasonal Changes, Merchandising, and management and development of the team and the plant area.
This role will include :
To grow the plant sales element of the business and increase turnover and profitability of the plant sales through good practice in ordering, pricing, displays and customer service.
To work as part of the Company team formulating and implementing plans under management supervision to drive the business forward.
To develop a team of appropriate numbers, quality and experience to increase sales and profitability
Main Duties of Job
To purchase stock in the correct quantities for the Plant Area/Garden Centre in line with company policy and budgets.
To negotiate price levels and discounts with plant suppliers on a regular basis.
To monitor the standard of plant stock purchased to ensure that the company’s quality standards are maintained.
To assist the garden centre manager in maintaining the Company’s standard of customer service through other staff members.
To assist the garden centre manager in the maintenance of a safe environment for customers and staff. To undertake a safety check from time to time as appropriate. To ensure that all Health and Safety procedures are complied with.
To assist the garden centre manager in maintaining an efficient communication system to all staff working in the Garden Centre area so that they are made aware of changes that affect service to the customer, the stock in the centre or staff working arrangements.
To be responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness in the internal and external areas of the Garden Centre.
To assist in ensuring the efficiency of the administration system to deal with purchase notes, delivery notes, invoices and other documentation and to become proficient in the use of the Company’s OpSuite ordering and stock taking systems.
To assist in the responsibility for a secure cash handling system in the Garden Centre and ensure that all procedures to maintain site security are carried out by designated members of staff. This to include cashing up as part of your duties.
To ensure that all new plant area staff members are made aware of company policies and procedures that affect them during working hours.
To undertake special projects as directed by the Manager/Managing Director from time to time.
More specifically in relation to your position to maintain and improve plant displays, quality and awareness in the Centre with a view to increasing overall plant sales, margins and profitability.
To perform any other duties as reasonably required by the garden centre manager from time to time.
Ideally you will work with a Garden Centre environment.
Have horticultural knowledge
Some knowledge of purchasing.
