Specialist Dietitian - Gastroenterology

Are you a dietitian with a genuine interest and experience in gastroenterology and nutritional support?Would you like to expand your knowledge in this area within a teaching hospital environment?We have an exciting opportunity for a dietitian to enhance their skills and knowledge within a post which will combine working with outpatients and inpatients in this speciality as part of our team at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust.This is a permanent part-time role (0.6 WTE band 6) which will include working as part of a dynamic and flexible team.


Main duties of the job

In addition to this summary, please familiarise yourself with full Job Description & Person Specification documents attached.The post holder will deliver dietetic gastroenterology outpatient clinics, via telephone or video consultations, supporting conditions including Coeliac disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, disorders of the gut-brain axis, pancreatic exocrine insufficiency and more. Supporting people with oral nutritional support &a small number of home enteral feeding patients.For one day per week the post holder will support the gastro dietetic team with their inpatient caseload, working in areas such as gastroenterology, hepatology, colorectal and HPB which will enable the successful candidate to gain further experience in a wide range of conditions.You will be involved with cover as part of the wider dietetic teams at NUH. The dietitian is a respected member of the MDT and you will have opportunity to work closely with the team in delivering high quality nutritional care to these patient groups.You'll need excellent communication skills, a flexible approach and the ability to manage your own time and workload within a supportive team.We expect you to be enthusiastic, motivated and pro-active to develop skills, experience and service development in a supportive environment.You would be supported by senior members of the team working in gastroenterology, hepatology, HPB and intestinal failure.

We are a diverse division of AHPs, nursing and support staff, who work together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists. We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the Division and Care Group leadership team have AHP backgrounds to support our staff. Job responsibilities

This job involves working with inpatients, therefore you will be required to wear the appropriate level of PPEMain responsibilities:Provides clinically effective specialist Dietetic and Nutrition Service in given clinical area, including assessment and advice/treatment.Acts as a source of expertise on Dietetics and Nutrition for staff, carers and patients including the provision of education and training.Work as a member of a departmental team with the support of the appropriate team leader. The post holder may work on either campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.Please refer to the job description attached for more information


Person Specification


Qualifications

* HCPC registered
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Member of the BDA
* Validated courses


Experience

* Experience as a dietitian
* Able to apply additional depth of knowledge gained through experience to specialist area
* Experience in any of the specialist areas


Analytical and judgement

* Able to overcome barriers to understanding.
* Excellent verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including explaining, negotiating, motivating and training.
* Able to work as an integral member of dietetic and multi-professional teams, building relationships with patients/carers, and other staff
* Able to handle sensitive and confidential information and respond to people who are distressed or anxious
* Able to overcome difficulties in communication, including language barriers, and adapt approach to varying situations.


Communication

* Able to communicate with a range of individuals on complex matters
* using professional judgement to solve problems and make decisions where there are a range of options


Planning and Organisational Skills

* Able to plan and organise own workload, including daily tasks and longer term strategic planning, despite interruptions and changing priorities.
* Able to plan and organise the work of allocated student dietitians


Physical

* Able to carry out anthropometric measurements accurately and use relevant equipment
* Able to use a computer keyboard and relevant computer programmes.
