Main Purpose of Role
Experienced maintenance manager with management / supervisory experience within a manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for forward planning to implement effective preventative maintenance measures for our Brick Manufacturing site in Dudley.
The role will be responsible for ensuring that health & safety compliance is implemented and maintained whilst effectively communicating changes and processes to colleagues.
Key Accountabilities
* Day to day supervision of the Maintenance Department in order to effectively maintain facilities, plant, and equipment, thus enabling efficient company operations.
* Ensure that all plant, equipment, services, and facilities are maintained to meet legislative and insurance requirements.
* Agree with Management Team statutory equipment inspection schedules, ensure resources are available to meet these and communicate plans to all involved.
* Develop, implement and ensure going effectiveness of a maintenance management system that cost‑effectively optimises asset availability and performance. This will typically include:
o Appropriate response to breakdowns and work requests.
o Inspection, lubrication and servicing regimes.
o Development and implementation of effective preventative maintenance programmes based on manufacturers’ recommendations and historical breakdown data.
o Spares policy, including stockholding and control of purchasing and replacement.
o Specification of equipment/services, and identification, selection and negotiation with suppliers/contractors (ongoing contracts and stand‑alone items) for areas of substantial expenditure.
o Introduction of autonomous maintenance to manufacturing teams.
* Ensure allocated projects are effectively managed to deliver objectives in a timely, cost‑effective manner. These projects will typically include:
o Provision of manufacturing facilities and equipment, including installation, modification, movement, decommissioning and removal of major items.
o Implementation of substantial innovations and improvement ideas to help to deliver group targets and objectives.
o Other product or operational improvement initiatives.
* Optimise energy usage through application of best practice examples, minimizing waste and ensuring energy efficient systems are introduced and maintained where possible.
* Ensure environmental requirements are met. This will typically include:
o Arrange and monitor interceptor condition to meet A2 Permit conditions.
o Control disposal of oils, rags and consumables.
o Provision and maintenance of environmental protection equipment e.g. bunds.
* Ensure that all activities within the department fully comply with all relevant Health & Safety requirements including:
o Company Health & Safety policies.
o LOTOTO procedures.
o COSHH related issues.
o Preparation and training of Risk Assessments.
o Provision and enforcement of Safe Operation Procedures.
o Wearing of the correct PPE at all times.
* Ensure good communication between maintenance staff and other departments through the effective use of formal communication channels and development of good interpersonal relationships. Attend daily production meetings and weekly site improvement meetings.
* Maintenance of the company asset register to ensure all required inspections and checks are in place and are conducted in a timely manner.
* Preparation of near miss incident reports/accident reports, as required, to ensure appropriate corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
* The raising and control of purchase requisitions on company SAP system for all maintenance related goods and services.
Essential Criteria
* HNC level or equivalent in electrical and/or mechanical engineering.
* IOSH Supervising Safely Certificate (or equivalent).
* Experience in Maintenance in similar refractory/foundry environment.
* Clear communicator with the ability to delegate effectively.
* Strong organisation skills to successfully balance workload.
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
* Promote good house‑keeping within the maintenance department in line with 5’S best practice.
* The ability to plan‑ahead, set goals and organise effectively to achieve objectives.
Desirable Criteria
* Experience in using SAP to place purchase orders.
* Trained in First Aid.
* Train the trainer experience.

Travel
Able to commute to work to start on early shift pattern (Monday – Thursday 06:00 – 14:00, Friday 06:00 – 12:00). Some out of normal hours working may be required in the event of breakdowns or to carry out essential maintenance which cannot be undertaken whilst the plant is operating.
