Position: Assistant Farm Manager / Stud Hand Location: Windsor Park Stud Employment Type: Fill Time – Permanent
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Assistant Farm Manager/Stud Hand to join our team in our mixed farming operation, which includes cattle, sheep, and thoroughbred horses. This is a hands-on, varied role suited to someone with proven practical skills, strong initiative, and a solid background in both general farming and stud work.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operation of heavy farm machinery, including tractors, diggers, and other large equipment
• General and specialized fencing work
• Daily care, feeding, and movement of all livestock, including managing animal health and nutrition
• Monitor livestock wellbeing and assist with treatments, including the administration of oral, intravenous (IV), and intramuscular (IM) injections
• The ability to help when needed during calving, lambing and foaling seasons, including identifying and assisting with difficult births
• Tree felling and arborist-related tasks, the ability to carry out safe and effective tree felling, pruning, and general arborist duties as required
• Contribute to the general maintenance and repairs of the farm, including but not limited to fixing water troughs, gates, fences, and basic plumbing including repairs, pasture maintenance, and weed control
• Equine handling: have the ability to work with all ages of horse, stallions, mares, foals, and yearlings
• Confidently working in the crush, and holding horses for farriers and vets
• Stallion barn duties and general stud work
Requirements:
• Proven experience in a similar mixed-farming and equine role
• High competency operating heavy machinery and tools
• Arborist experience (chainsaw use, tree felling, etc.)
• Strong equine handling skills across all age groups and temperaments
• Sound animal health knowledge and treatment administration skills
• Physically fit and willing to work in all weather conditions
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
What’s in it for you:
• An hourly rate of $26.00 with 49.6 hours per week during the season and 46.3 hours per week during the off season.
