Locum Consultant General Surgeon NHS Lanarkshire - University Hospital Wishaw An opportunity has arisen for Locum Consultant General Surgeons based at University Hospital Wishaw for an initial period of 1 year. The successful applicants will join a dynamic Surgical Unit consisting of 6 Colorectal Surgeons, 5 Upper GI Consultants, participating in a 1:12 on call rota. This busy District General Hospital was the first in NHS Lanarkshire to offer laparoscopic colorectal resection to all patients by all members of the team. Interests include a large Sacral Nerve stimulation practice, complex inflammatory Bowel Disease, laparoscopic ventral rectopexy and the endoscopic management of complex polyps with the biggest ESD practice in the West of Scotland. There is a weekly CRC MDT, as well as monthly Pelvic Floor MDT, and monthly IBD MDT. Wishaw is the centre for the pre–assessment service for the NHS Lanarkshire Bowel Screening Programme. In addition, Wishaw is the regional centre for specialist UGI surgical services including oesophago-gastric cancer resections, bariatric surgery and complex hiatal/biliary surgery. The Upper GI Team actively manage the endoscopic palliation of advanced Upper GI malignancy through an OP fast track pathway. Both UGI & CR services are supported by an excellent endoscopy department. NHS Lanarkshire has excellent post-graduate libraries and IT facilities and the unit has a proven track record for research and publications. Active post-graduate educational programmes are in place.
