The Role
As a Junior Network Engineer, you will be joining the LAND Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) programme delivering a flexible and agile system of systems that will enable the Army from 2035 and beyond to FIND the enemy across all the domains it will operate in.
Day-to-day, you’ll work with project managers and technical leads, to provide the systems required to ingest data from all battlefield sensors and Combined, Joint, Inter-Agency, Intra-Government and Multinational (CJIIM) information/intelligence feeds, fuse it, analyse it and distribute the resulting intelligence rapidly to battlefield users.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Responding to technical support calls from end users of computers and software applications
2. Setting up and installing new computers, networks and software and follow work instructions to change components
3. Installing updates and patches to software and hardware applications
4. Diagnosing and fixing network problems and hardware or software faults
5. Maintain network connectivity and accurately record changes
6. Fault finding network and hardware issues
Essential experience of the Junior Network Engineer:
7. Experience of working within an IT service desk/help desk environment
8. WINTEL, VMware and implementation experience
9. Knowledge and understanding of the design, implementation and troubleshooting of Hierarchical IP Subnetting and Routing protocols including OSPF and BGP
10. Knowledge of routers, switches and firewalls
11. Professional interpersonal/communication skills to convey technical information
12. Positive attitude and determination to see issues addressed successfully
Essential qualifications for the Junior Network Engineer:
13. Holds Networking certification eg.CCNP or similar

This role is 37 hours per week based at Portsmouth. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
