Assistant Purchasing Manager – Newark Distribution Centre, Long Hollow Way, Newark, Notts, NG24 2NH. Permanent, Full Time, Grade 3. Salary – £34,000 – £37,000 per annum depending on experience. Hours – 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday.
We’re looking for an Assistant Purchasing Manager to join our repair centre in Newark, where our teams repair high‑end consumer electronics and white goods and support the trusted service our customers expect. You’ll lead a team of 8–15 purchasing professionals, ensuring the timely and cost‑effective supply of spare parts and indirect goods to keep our repair operations running smoothly. You’ll work closely with vendors and cross‑functional teams, using data‑driven insight and strong stakeholder relationships to ensure our Repairs teams have the right product, at the right place, at the right time to deliver outstanding availability and value for our customers.
Role responsibilities
* Leading purchasing performance and productivity, ensuring customer satisfaction and key operational KPIs are met in line with business strategy and supply market conditions.
* Developing and managing strong supplier relationships alongside Senior Buyers and Buyers, driving long‑term value, ensuring contractual requirements are delivered, and leading regular supplier reviews.
* Leading, motivating and developing a team of colleagues, using a flexible leadership style to drive engagement, accountability and a high‑performance culture aligned to Currys values.
* Delivering Total Cost of Ownership analysis across Spare Parts and Indirect spend, identifying cost and efficiency opportunities and leading supplier negotiations and selection.
* Supporting the evaluation and onboarding of new spare parts suppliers, completing due diligence as required and progressing successful suppliers through contract and operational setup for Repair Centre and Field Repair operations.
What you will need
* Proven experience in a purchasing, buying or supplier management role with an understanding of sourcing and procurement principles and processes.
* Some experience or exposure of people management with the ability to lead by example, coaching and motivating teams.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and build credibility with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
* Strong negotiation capability, able to secure commercially and operationally effective outcomes.
* Analytical and adaptable, with the ability to interpret data, solve problems and respond effectively to changing priorities.
* Microsoft Office skills, with particular strength in Microsoft Excel to support analysis, reporting and decision‑making.
