Post: Science Technician
Salary: Grade 3 (SCP 4-6) pro-rata
Contract: This is a permanent position working 25 hours per week Monday-Friday (term time inclusive of inset days).
Responsibilities
* Coordinate the use of practical resources and facilities of the science departments, working closely with the Senior Lab Technician and joining the rest of the technicians’ team.
* Provide support and advice in meeting the needs of the science curriculums.
* Prepare the materials, stock and standard solutions, specimens and apparatus required for demonstrations and practical work.
* Set up and test demonstration experiences and ensure that they work satisfactorily.
* Clean up after lessons and of apparatus (e.g. glassware) used by teaching staff and by pupils if it is difficult or dangerous.
* Carry out risk assessments for technicians’ activities.
* Assist in practical lessons and carry out demonstrations where required.
* Report items for repair, equipment and services, etc.
* Maintain apparatus and equipment in good working order and carry out repairs within the capabilities of the Technician.
* Safe disposal of biological and chemical residues and other waste materials.
* Inspect, maintain and ensure the correct use of safety equipment.
* Operate an efficient system for stocking, storing, transporting and distributing all items used in the Science Department.
* Operate laboratory documentation systems including the online requisition system for lessons.
* Prepare standard solutions, purify chemicals, and treat waste.
* Maintain a good stock of necessary materials for the construction of scientific apparatus.
* Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to Safeguarding, Health & Safety, Security, Data Protection etc., reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.

* Demonstrate a passion and enthusiasm for Science.
* Play a full part in the life of the school community, to support the school ethos and to encourage staff and students to follow this example.
* Actively promote school policies.
* Sustain professional development in agreement with line manager.
* Actively engage in the staff review and development process.
