Lead our Data Platform Services function and shape the platforms that teams across the bank rely on every day. You’ll be accountable for the reliability, performance, security and cost‑efficiency of core Big Data services (e.g., Hadoop, Kubernetes and S3‑based storage), enabling engineers and product teams to build and run data services safely and at pace. This is a highly collaborative role partnering with CTO Infrastructure, Architecture, Cyber Security, Engineering and Operations. You’ll set clear standards and create frictionless self‑service patterns, so teams can onboard quickly, stay compliant, and focus on delivering value for customers.
Key Accountabilities
* Set the platform strategy and roadmap for Big Data platform capabilities (e.g., data lake, analytics enablement, data tooling)
* Improve reliability and operational excellence through resilience engineering, observability, automation and incident learning
* Establish an enterprise approach to open‑source consumption and contribution, including tooling, platform services and controls.
* Provide a secure, highly resilient, scalable, and high‑performing Data Storage Platform that enables teams to access data at scale while meeting risk, compliance, and resilience expectations
* Deliver modern data flow capabilities by evolving messaging/streaming platforms for real‑time ingestion and processing
* Optimise performance and cost via capacity planning, workload controls and continuous efficiency improvements across virtualised, containerised and cloud/hybrid environments
* Build and run a high‑performing platform engineering organisation, developing multi‑disciplinary leaders and teams that are focused on developer experience, reliability, and standardised delivery patterns.
Skills & Experience
* Senior Technology leadership experience owning enterprise platform services (data/compute/storage/messaging) in a regulated environment
* Experience in leading and inspiring diverse teams of 150+ and large‑scale budgets of $10m+, with a focus on customer outcomes and sustainable delivery
* A deep understanding of platform engineering, SRE/reliability, resilience engineering, observability, and automation within a large‑scale enterprise environment
* Familiarity with cloud/hybrid, container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), microservices, and infrastructure as code
* Knowledge of secure software supply chain and open‑source governance (licensing, SBOM, dependency controls).
* Familiarity with DevOps practices and cost optimisation at scale
* A leadership style that’s inclusive, coaching‑led and collaborative – you create clarity, build confidence, and help teams do their best work!
* This role supports hybrid working (3 days in office)
* Degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferable but not essential.
