Overview
We are looking for a 0.8 wte Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work in our existing stroke team. You will be responsible for providing assessment, treatment and evaluation to patients on the acute stroke wards at Colchester Hospital. You will build on your experience to further develop clinical and managerial competencies and develop neurological expertise within the Specialist Stroke Team.
Responsibilities
* Provide Occupational Therapy assessments of patients with diverse presentations and complex conditions to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
* Act as an autonomous professional practitioner, working without the need for direct supervision.
* Carry out appraisals and clinical supervision for more junior members of the team.
* Act as a clinical educator to students on placement with the team.
* Delegate work appropriately and manage assistant practitioners and therapy assistants within the team.
* Prioritise referrals and workload to ensure timely and effective care.
* Practice in accordance with the Royal College of Occupational Therapists Rules of Professional Conduct and Standards of OT, and the Health Professions Council regulations.
* Supervise therapy assistants and deliver training where appropriate and required.
* Supervise, educate and assess the performance of OT students.
* Contribute to 7-day stroke rehabilitation delivery as part of the team.
Requirements / Experience
* Band 6 Occupational Therapist with previous stroke experience or a track record of developing neurological expertise.
* Ability to consolidate prior knowledge and continue developing a broad range of rehabilitation skills.
* Strong leadership, delegation and mentoring skills to support junior staff and students.
* Commitment to professional conduct and standards of OT and regulatory requirements.
