Garden Services Team Leader
Location: Bishopthorpe, York, YO23 2RF
Contract: Temporary contract to cover maternity leave, starting mid-June 2027 and ending on or before mid-August 2027.
* Salary: £16,318 per annum (FTE £27,816 based on 37.5 hours per week)
* Hours: 22 per week; working pattern: Monday or Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
* Benefits: full paid training, paid DBS check, 7 weeks holiday pro-rata (including bank holidays)
About the Role
Garden Services fulfils a wide range of gardening contracts, from one‑off landscaping and planting projects to regular garden maintenance and developing accessible or sensory gardens. This role involves enabling others to grow and thrive, managing business and operational aspects of the service, including contracts, quoting, invoicing, health and safety, and supervising one other staff member.
Responsibilities
* Manage garden maintenance contracts and other horticulture projects.
* Quote for new jobs, prepare invoices, and manage health and safety responsibilities.
* Supervise and support one staff member while encouraging their skill development.
* Provide excellent customer service to clients and build genuine connections.
Qualifications
* Experience managing a garden maintenance service or similar enterprise.
* Strong knowledge of garden design, plants and maintenance.
* Experience enabling others in horticulture or with learning needs.
* Excellent organisational skills and customer service orientation.
* Positive can‑do attitude, straightforward approach, and willingness to make a difference.
