Position Overview:
The CNA 1 supports licensed nursing staff by delivering direct patient care and performing routine health tasks that promote the well-being and dignity of workers or residents under medical supervision. The CNA ensures health protocols are upheld, assists in emergency care, and helps create a clean, safe, and supportive care environment within project clinics, camps, or wellness stations.
Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.
Assist patients or residents with daily living activities: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
Take and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
Observe patient conditions and promptly report any health or behavioral changes to the supervising nurse.
Help with patient mobility, repositioning, and transfers using assistive devices or manual support.
Assist with intake and output monitoring, fluid levels, and nutrition tracking.
Prepare patient beds, maintain hygiene, and ensure a sanitary and organized care environment.
Support emergency response procedures, including CPR and first aid under supervision.
Maintain accurate patient records, logs, and documentation of daily care activities.
Assist nurses during treatment procedures or medical assessments.
Uphold patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality in all interactions.
Educate patients or residents on hygiene and preventive care practices.
Provide emotional support, companionship, and responsive care as required.
Follow all site health protocols, infection control procedures, and workplace safety standards.
Ensure safe storage and handling of patient care equipment and medical supplies.
May be required to assist in camp health inspections, immunization drives, or health education outreach.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certifications:
KCSE certificate minimum.
Certificate in Nursing Assistantship from a recognized and accredited institution.
Valid CNA license or certification in accordance with national health regulations.
First Aid, CPR, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
OSHA or DOSHS health and safety training is an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum 12 years experience in a hospital, clinic, care facility, or occupational health unit.
Field or camp-based health support experience is highly desirable.
Demonstrated competence in vital signs monitoring, patient care, and emergency support.
Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Compassionate, observant, and detail-oriented.
Proficient in basic medical documentation and care protocols.
Comfortable working in high-pressure, remote, or resource-limited environments.
Team player with a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
Other Requirements:
Physically fit and able to lift/move patients safely.
Willing to work shifts, weekends, or be on-call as needed.
Comfortable living and working in camp-based or remote site environments.
Must pass background check and health screening.
