We are looking for a passionate Veterinary Surgeon to join our Wymondham branch, a modern, purpose-built practice that's part of a close-knit group of five well-established sites across Norfolk. Whether you're looking to develop your clinical interests, expand your surgical experience, or simply find a team that truly supports each other, this could be the role for you.
Why this practice
As part of the Chapelfield group, we work collaboratively to share knowledge, skills, and resources across branches, so you’ll feel supported and connected whether you’re at your branch or discussing cases across sites. The Wymondham facility offers a bright, spacious environment with modern equipment and dedicated spaces for both patients and staff.
Responsibilities
* Typical workload split: ~75% client consultations and ~25% surgical procedures.
* Surgical procedures include neutering, dentals, lump removals, laparotomies, BOAS and TECA procedures, and orthopaedics.
* Aim to work up cases in-house where possible and tailor workloads to individual vets’ strengths and areas of interest, including study towards certificates.
Team and culture
* Join a wider team of 19 small animal vets, 21 registered veterinary nurses, four veterinary care assistants, and support staff.
* Colleagues include certificate holders in dermatology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, and ongoing studies in feline medicine, imaging, and cardiology. One Head Nurse is undertaking an anaesthesia certificate.
* Collaboration is central—cases, knowledge sharing, and camaraderie over coffee.
Facilities and diagnostics
* Digital radiography, modern ultrasound with Doppler, dental radiography (new iM3 X-ray machine coming to Wymondham), multiple consult rooms, dedicated prep area and imaging suite.
* Two fully equipped theatres with multiparameter monitors, separate cat and dog waiting areas, kennels, and a peaceful cattery (ISFM accreditation in progress).
* In-house IDEXX haematology and biochemistry analysers, urine analyser, microscope facilities; IDEXX for fast and reliable external results.
* Upstairs staff facilities include modern kitchen, breakout areas, and a clinical office for quiet work or team catch-ups.
Community and impact
* We support several animal charities and work with Dogs Trust, Cats Protection League, Venture Farm, and other welfare organisations. Occasional cover at nearby sites to support the wider team.
Benefits and development
* Flexible working patterns to suit lifestyle, including rota adjustments for school holidays and balance between home and work life.
* Working up to 40 hours per week, with no out-of-hours work; Saturday rota no more than 1 in 4 mornings.
* Private Medical Insurance, Employee Assistance Programme (24/7), enhanced family-friendly policies, and a CPD allowance (£1250) with paid CPD leave.
* Certificate support, opportunities through the IVC Evidensia Academy, Vetlexicon access, and funding for research opportunities.
* Professional memberships coverage (BVA, VDS, RCVS), pension with employer contributions, cycle to work and green car schemes where eligible, and voluntary benefit options including discounts for pet treatment.
Location
Primarily based in Wymondham, Norfolk with some flexibility across branches and occasional coverage at nearby sites.
