About Midlothian Schools
Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (including 19 nurseries), and 2 standalone nurseries. Our special school, Saltersgate, supports children with various physical, social, emotional, behavioural, and learning difficulties. Schools vary from small primary schools with around 20 pupils to large secondary schools with over 1200 pupils. The catchment areas are diverse, ranging from rural to urban. We have seen significant growth with several new schools built recently and more planned.
Interview Schedule
Interviews will take place during the week beginning 2nd June 2025.
Requirements
Pre-Employment Checks
Employment is conditional upon satisfactory completion of checks including medical screening, two references (one from your current employer), verification of qualifications, and eligibility to work in the UK. Registration with the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) and a PVG check for Regulated Work with Children are mandatory.
Registration and PVG Scheme
Applicants for permanent positions must be registered with GTCS. Details are available at www.gtcs.org.uk. Since this role involves Regulated Work with Children, successful candidates will need PVG Scheme membership, which involves a fee of £59 for full membership or £18 for a Record Update, payable via salary deduction over specified periods.
Disclosure of Offenses
Applicants must disclose any unspent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Failure to disclose may result in withdrawal of an offer. Having a criminal record does not automatically disqualify applicants; decisions are made based on the nature of the offense and the role.
Application Process
Apply online. Assistance is available at all Midlothian public libraries. If you face difficulties or require reasonable adjustments due to disability, call 0131 271 3063 and mention the post reference number.
Eligible candidates, such as trainees, those with disabilities, or care-experienced young people, are guaranteed an interview if they meet the essential criteria.
