Overview
AXA UK is recruiting a Development Underwriter - P&C for the Bristol area, predominantly partnering brokers across the South West and South Wales region. The role will involve developing and delivering profitable growth across new and existing business, with a strong balance of technical underwriting and trading capability. It requires travel: you’ll work at least 60% of your week away from home, visiting clients or attending industry events, and will be aligned to the Bristol branch with regular collaboration with the wider team.
As a development underwriter, you’ll drive and transform how we partner our broker portfolios, supported by data, insight, and decision support tools on mobile technology.
What you’ll be doing
* Act as the face of AXA in presenting propositions for larger Mid-Market (MM) and Mid-Corporate (MC) risks, based on industry knowledge and technical underwriting expertise, subject to scale and complexity.
* Work with a seasoned Trading team to negotiate coverage, wordings and pricing that differentiate AXA to meet customer needs.
* Proactively develop a robust pipeline of MM and Mid-Corporate growth opportunities leveraging client and broker relationships, ensuring pipeline is effectively managed and realised.
* Lead and fully embed the large case management process for both new and existing business.
* Develop and maintain collaborative broker relationships across the region, taking ownership for generation, placement and retention of profitable business from self-sourced opportunities.
* Underwrite profitable new and existing business in line with AXA underwriting controls and practices and act as a referral point in the branch.
* Develop and maintain a quality distribution strategy and communication plan with key brokers to ensure financial KPIs are achieved.
* Maintain understanding of the performance of the region’s book (COR, Rate, Retention, Hot Spot trades, profit drivers and underwriting circular).
What you’ll bring
* Expert technical underwriting knowledge with demonstrable experience in two or more mid-market classes.
* Proven track record in underwriting Mid-Market and Mid-Corporate business.
* Experience securing and retaining business of large scale and complex nature through senior broker/customer relationships.
* Insight development and portfolio relationship management with clients and brokers.
* Personal impact and influence, with negotiation and persuasion skills.
* Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
As a precondition of employment, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom. This position is subject to Insurance Distribution Directive (IDD) background screening every 4 years with an annual interim declaration.
