Role: System Safety Engineer - Civil Aviation
Location: Bristol or Yeovil - Flexibly hybrid
Role Type: 12 months - initially
Salary: Up to £70 an hour, depending on experience
Our globally renowned client is seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer to support the certification of Boeing commercial aircraft within the Civil Aerospace division. Working collaboratively with colleagues in the UK and the United States, the successful candidate will play a key role in managing safety requirements, conducting safety assessments, and providing verification evidence in accordance with international aviation safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Ensure system and aircraft-level safety requirements meet development assurance objectives in line with ARP4754A, DO-178B/C, and DO-254.
* Lead or contribute to the development and review of safety analyses, including Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Fault Tree Analyses (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEA), and Common Mode Analyses (CMA).
* Support verification and validation activities that demonstrate compliance with system safety and certification objectives.
* Collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams and international stakeholders to maintain safety across the full lifecycle of aircraft systems.
Essential Requirements
* Degree (BEng/MEng or equivalent) in Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
* 10+ years' experience in aerospace engineering, with 6+ years specialising in system safety engineering.
* Comprehensive understanding of ARP4761 safety assessment methodologies and the ARP4754 development process.
* Proficiency in Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) tools such as Reliability Workbench (RWB) or CAFTA.
Desirable Skills and Experience
* Formal training or academic qualifications in System Safety Engineering.
* Experience producing safety analyses for ATA 27 - Flight Controls or other flight-critical systems.
